Kitchen Sink Replacement cost
Replacing a drop-in stainless sink with one the same size is a short plumbing job, as long as the new rim covers the old cutout. Our range is $144 to $891, with $395 at the center.
At Home Depot, 33-inch sinks were priced $80 to $370. The faucet isn't included. Going to an undermount or farmhouse sink means countertop work and is a different project.

33 in. drop-in stainless sink in an existing countertop cutout, reconnecting the existing faucet and disposal; undermount and farmhouse conversions are out of band. National OEWS mean wage used on this page: $34.70/hr (SOC 47-2152).
How the national mid is built
Before you enter a ZIP we use the U.S. OEWS mean wage for Plumbers, Pipefitters, and Steamfitters (SOC 47-2152): $34.70/hr (BLS OEWS May 2025). Mid estimate ≈ 2.5 hours × $34.70 × 2.25× markup + materials mid $200 (with a small regional materials factor). Low uses p10 wages × 2.0×; high uses p90 × 2.5×. National planning band: $144 – $395 – $891.

Materials band (cited retail)
Published materials low / mid / high: $80 / $200 / $370 (33 in. drop-in stainless sink in an existing countertop cutout, reconnecting the existing faucet and disposal; undermount and farmhouse conversions are out of band). Shelf checks that shaped the band (see also DATA_SOURCES):
33 in. drop-in stainless: Glacier Bay double 22-gauge ~$79 · Transolid ~$112.67 · KRAUS Premier ~$169.95 · Glacier Bay Bratten ~$199 · KOHLER Verse ~$239–$278 · KRAUS Loften ~$299.95 · KOHLER Cursiva ~$319 · Ruvati Tirana ~$369 (search). Sink only; faucet, strainers and drain parts not included.
Before you replace a kitchen sink
- Measure the cutout, not just the sink. A drop-in swap stays simple only if the new rim covers the old hole in the countertop. Bring the old sink's outside dimensions to the store.
- Count the faucet holes. Many stainless sinks come with one, three, or four holes. Match your faucet, sprayer, and soap dispenser, or plan on a cover plate.
- Drop-in to undermount is a different job. Undermount sinks need a solid-surface or stone top cut and finished for them. That's countertop work, not the price here.
- Ask about the disposal and dishwasher. Bowl depth and drain position change how the disposal and dishwasher drain line up. Ask whether new tailpieces, strainers, and a fresh trap are in the quote.

What usually moves the number
- Drop-in vs. undermount
- Single vs. double bowl and steel gauge
- Whether the new rim covers the old cutout
- Reconnecting a disposal and dishwasher drain
- Old caulk and corroded strainers

Kitchen Sink Replacement FAQ
How much does kitchen sink replacement cost?
About $395 at the US midpoint, with our range running $144 to $891. Enter your ZIP and the calculator swaps in local wages for plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters (BLS OEWS May 2025, SOC 47-2152). The national average wage we start from is $34.70 an hour.
Where do the hours and parts prices come from?
The hours (1.5 / 2.5 / 4.0) are our own estimates for the scope described on this page. Parts and materials ($80 / $200 / $370) come from store prices we checked and list on our data sources page. We multiply labor by 2.0, 2.25 or 2.5 to cover a contractor's overhead and profit; the methodology page explains why.
Is this a quote?
No. It's a planning range so you know roughly what to expect. When you're ready to hire, get written estimates from licensed pros. The FTC's home repair tip sheet says to get three, and to ask why they differ. Check what each one leaves out, like permits, haul-away and patching.
Any rebates or tax credits?
Fairange does not track rebates for sinks.
